Different Podcast to use in the classroom

Podcast for Education
Soundcloud, Audioboo, Podomatic and Spreaker Studio
Using Podcast in the education can benefit the student tremendously.  According to “Teachers guide to use of Podcast in Education” article on the Educational Technology and mobile Learning website, they have identified several ways a teacher can use a podcast. For example they can benefit the auditory learner because the student can hear it over and over to understand the lesson. Another example it is great to use for the remedial and student who need that extra support. Or the student can download a podcast and review the lesson when it’s convenient for him to hear and hear it as many times as he wants to hear it.
In an article in the “Educational Technology Network” it states that since teachers are teaching to digital natives that allowing students to use Podcast helps them be “creative and think outside the box.” They can review what they just learn and teach it to others.

In the Wikipedia when I made a search I read, “SoundCloud is a global online audio distribution platform based in Berlin, Germany, that enables its users to upload, record, promote, and share their originally-created sounds.” I tried to use it but was not comfortable with it. It was not for me. Funny I found it in my morning devotional, the author (Tony Evans) embedded in the devotional so we can auditory listen to the different names of God. It was only one second long. Cool!

Audioboo from London, United Kingdom according to Wikipedia, it states that people can download, record, and listen to any digital recordings. It is a podcast that has no limits to how many podcast you want to use it which is making the site “popular with audio bloggers, diarists, journalists, teachers, and podcasters.”  I also tried to use it but was not able to because it was not what I was used to.

Podomatic I tried to use it also, It gave me a five steps to start; 1. Select media for your episode. 2. Enter a title and description. 3. Add an image. 4. Choose a quality level. 5. Publish! As one who was using it for an assignment I did not feel I needed all of those steps to create one Podcast. I believe if I was going to use it for an ongoing class then I would consider it.

I got to use Spreaker Studio and found it easy and convenient. I did not have to pay a fee. I liked the fact that I just press a red button on my IPad and it starts to record. It allows for additional sound to be injected in my podcast for free. I had used this app before for my previous class so I was familiar with podcasting and Spreaker Studio. Here is a review by Make use of website that can give more information on the benefits of using this Podcast.

Here is my Podcast I did with the help of Elaine, one my student. She was the one asking questions and made this recording easy to do. Here is my podcast on Technology in Education.

Toondoo, Pixton, Comic book, and Tellagami

Toondoo, Pixton, Comicbook, and Tellagami
In this assignment I started with Toondoo, it was very simple to use it had many variety to use in characters and serene.  I had to email it to myself although it did allow for me to post it on Facebook and Twitter I first wanted to have it for myself. I could also upgrade but with a fee, but I liked what they already had to offer for free so I am satisfied. The students will like using it because it was fun and it can be made to be funny if they like. Here is the Toondoo I made.

Another one I tried was Pixton and this one was easy too. I think this one was super easy and I do believe the student can use it and enjoy the different character they can use. I could Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Pinterest and YouTube if I wanted too. To upgrade I would have to pay a fee but I liked what I have for free. I would like to use it in my library to remind the students to be careful with the books and to return the books as soon as they finish using it. Here is my comic from Pixton.

Next one was Makebeliefscomix.com, it was free and easy to use. It can show you how to use it. It gave a great example for teachers on what to write about.  I could download it from I Tunes. Now this one was very easy to use. Not complicated at all. It did allow me to put up on YouTube. So I did and here you can see my comic strip. The students can use it and even though it does not have much variety but its free and what it has you can do a lot with it. You can upgrade with a small fee too but try it for free and see if that’s what you like.
Tellagami is my last one I tried, now this one I had to get it on my IPad and paid 4.99. It was simple and what I had to do is use an Avatar and I could change hair, skin, eyes, colors, clothes, voice of a male or female and background. I typed what I wanted to say but it also gave me the option to record my voice. The students will like this besides being easy to use it can be fun and instrumental for Language arts, Math, Social science, and other subjects. I made one and hope you will like it. I made it to my book trailer I did for YouTube. I asked the students to continue on the last book of “A Voice in the Wind.” It will be to continue on what the German Gladiator will do to find his freedom for the Romans. I do believe you would like it for your students along with a QR code to take them to the assignment. Being creative can be fun for us too.
How I plan to use this well I looked in Pinterest for ideas and found one on how use context clues.  Another was for math, many funny stuff. I found how to  help develop literacy Skills. For the library I use one to explain the Dewey system and another to remember to return a book on time. Also don’t forget to take care of the book too. There is a limitless of ideas you can use this and if you get very sure of yourself maybe you can create a video cartoon and post it on YouTube.

Videos and QR Codes in the library

Videos and QR Codes in the Library

Doing this assignment was very interesting in the fact that I had to view other school videos which made me think, "do we as a district have this going on too?" Well because this is great, not onlyfor our students but for our faculty. Every summer we have a five day Technology Conference where they teach us how to use new gadgets for our classes and I hardly see it done. To see other high schools do this lets me understand how this school districts want to prepare their students to succeed in their college endeavors. Awesome!
For this first task we had to look at different schools on YouTube and look at two different things. One, what was most helpful for students and second what was most liked by students. Here is what I found....
    1.  Which is the most helpful for students?
NHS library orientation video because it explains the many ways the students can utilize the library also it explains what not use is for. It was clear and direct.
2            2. Which is the video that the students would like the best?
Pete the cat video because as an elementary teacher I am always reading this book to my kids and I know my students will love it too.

               1. Which is the most helpful for students?
Tillery Tutorial Video: Creative Commons 101 for Senior Project Slides because it help the senior to prepare for college and for their senior classes work.

            2. . Which is the video that the students would like the best?
The Importance of Choice for Igniting Student Passion and Learning through Research Projects
Because it is interesting and it has over 800 views so I do believe the students found this very interesting.

               1. Which is the most helpful for students?
AVID Pimp My Binder 2012 because as a school district how has implemented the AVID theories it is very helpful to teachers and especially our students. Love the video, it makes it very clear the importance of an organize binder for class.
2.   Which is the video that the students would like the best?
The Panthers Library Shakes because it has over 270 views and it is very funny and silly to watch.

1        1.  Which is the most helpful for students?
Noodle Tools - Creating a Book Citation very useful as a future college student this is awesome.
2..Which is the video that the students would like the best?
Bring Them Back Overdue Library Book Parody because not only does have over 56.000 views it is so creative and well done. I would like to use it for my library website.

My next task was to make a book trailer and give a summary or synopsis of the book and make a QR Scan for that will lead you to view my video on YouTube. This was what I did hope you like it.
For my book trailer I didn’t know how to make one so I went to YouTube first and found lots of book trailers then I went to Pinterest to see if I could get ideas of how to start and I found this. A website shows how to make a Book Trailer for your library books. http://madison.campusguides.com/booktrailerinfo . Here is April van Buren ideas of what to do for a book trailer
Book Trailer Basics: How to Create Your Own Book Trailer and Bring Your Story to Life | WOW! Women On Writing:

Now I made a book trailer using Animoto with different pictures from a Pinterest. I created a QR code for you to view. The book is called "A Voice in the Wind" by Francine Rivers. It takes place in 70 A.D. Rome. A time when Christian where sent to the lions for their beliefs in the great coliseum. It is a wonderful love story that has a lot of historical facts embedded in the story line. It depicts a true Rome and it’s relevancy of today’s world.

This is a synopsis from Amazon books: “The first book in the bestselling Mark of the Lion series, A Voice in the Wind brings readers back to the first century and introduces them to a character they will never forget—Hadassah. Torn by her love for a handsome aristocrat, this young slave girl clings to her faith in the living God for deliverance from the forces of decadent Rome.”
Here is my book trailer on YouTube.

How would I use QR codes for the classroom or anywhere in the library, I looked it up first in Pinterest and found bazillions of ideas. For book trailers, lessons and activities as teachers, listening station, a bibliography of any one and an author of the month books to view like for example Robert Munch.  A QR code can take the student to learn either a book review, a person, or YouTube trailer. Here are some picture of examples you can use for your school . All this pictures and ideas came from Pinterest.com.

QR codes for book trailers, eBooks, and for scavenger hunts in the library, how fun is that.

Screencasts, Vine, and Instagram assignment

Screencasts, Vine, and Instagram
I open an account first with Instagram. It was fairly easy. I posted three pictures and thought I can use this to make awareness of public library or of an event in my library such as a book fair or even when we are celebrating Dr. Seuss birthday. Also it can be used to notify of a new book to the library. Here are my pictures I did for Dr. Seuss.  I found a website that gave ten ways a classroom can use Instagram.  It gives example such as “Imagine what a favorite character would post” and “Share reading recommendations. The other I used was Vine and it allows for you to post a video but it has to be only a few seconds long. I went to my public library and saw they were reading a book and they did a puppet show. So I got a video of the event and posted on Vine. With Vine I thought I could use it as a reminder or as a notice of what events is coming to our school. It can be an introduction to a book assignment or it can be used as "try to figure what this book is about" by giving clues in the video. On this website it stated that schools should be mindful of what they allow to use because it has a lot of content that is questionable for your students. Another website said they would use it for students to choose their favorite character from Mac Beth and make a video of their famous line. This other website  gives good ideas of how to use Vine, for example for math it can gives a short video for comprehension.  Another example it can create a scene of the book they are reading. I liked this example a “How to video”. Last how to use Vine is in “Demonstrate Key Concepts”, it maybe that the Vine videos are only six seconds long but the viewer can benefit because they have a continuous loop.
I also made a book summary using Adobe Video. It was fun making the video. I took photos and played around with the music. Finally this is what I created. My Rapunzel’s Revenge book summary video. See if you like it too.

I also got to use Screenocasst. It was easy to use. I just downloaded to my computer and choose a website to demonstrate and started to record. I chose Toondoo Website because it was fun and quite simple to demonstrate. Here is my website demonstration I did with screencasts. On Edutopia they give examples on how to use Screencast. They claim it’s a new version of PowerPoint. Also that it is good at giving sample of math problems where it shows how to do a problem rather than just showing facts.
Here is another How to video with Makebeliefscomix.com using ScreenOcasts. Hope you like it. Tell me what you think. Makebeliefscomixs.com

How to use Toondo.using Screenocast

This how to use Toondoo with Screencast. I liked this very much. I would like to use it as a retell  a story or the main idea. Tell me what you think.

Inforgraph

I chose to use Easel.ly for my Infograph because it was easy for me to manipulate and make the infograph. I tried the others and got frustrated. I could not put pictures of  graphs easily. As I was working with Easel.ly it made a worlds of difference. I also liked that it gave me a lot of things to add free. I also allowed me to use a infograph already made as references. So that's exactly what I did. I used an example graph and changed the information and some pictures to make my information chart.
